The Focus of the Spring 2008 Heritage Conference by the Heritage Task Force of the Flint Hills Tourism Coalition, Inc. was on the National Heritage Area Movement.

Four speakers were featured at this Conference:

John Cosgrove, Washington, DC, Executive Director of the Alliance of National Heritage Areas spoke on the National Heritage Area movement and activities of several of the thirty some organizations around the country

Sue Pridemore, Omaha, NE, National Park Service representative, shared here experiences working within a 13 state region with National Heritage Areas and aspirant groups such as ours

Judy Billings, Lawrence, KS, Lawrence Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, shared with the group her experiences in the leadership of the development of the Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area in eastern Kansas and western Missouri

Dr. Jim Hoy, Emporia, KS, Emporia State University professor, Director, Center for Great Plains Studies, author of Flint Hills Cowboys, Tales of the Tallgrass Prairie, spoke on the distinctive stories of the Kansas Flint Hills

Dennis Toll, Manhattan CVB and Co-Chair, Heritage Task Force, served as Moderator
