For an unforgettable family getaway in the Flint Hills of Kansas, spend a couple of days on the beautiful Flying W Ranch in Chase County. You can have an authentic cowboy experience, complete with horseback riding, wagon rides, wildflower walks, star gazing, and fishing, among many other activities. You will stay in air-conditioned comfort in a modern lodge or cabin with nature just outside your door.

The Flying W is operated by fifth-generation Flint Hills ranchers Josh and Gwen Hoy. It can easily accommodate a bus load of travelers, or provide privacy and seclusion for two. If you wish, you can do your own cooking, or you can have meals catered by Josh, who has trained at the Culinary Institute of America. The saddle horses are trail-tested, and Gwen provides excellent instruction for novice riders.

The Flying W is located just south of US Highway 50 at the Clements turnoff, about 35 miles west of Emporia. The 1886 stone double-arch bridge (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) spanning the Cottonwood River is located on the north edge of this historical ranch, which is also the site of a campground used by Confederate raider Dick Yeager during the Civil War.
