The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks manage a total of 581 acres. The area is situated on the eastern edge of the Flint hills region in Kansas. The 441 acre wildlife area is dominated by tall grass native prairie with wooded draws running trough the area. Much of the construction of the 140 acre lake was done by the Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps. The lake as a drainage area of 1,400 acres comprised mostly of native grass which contributes greatly to the lake?s water clarity. The area also includes high use areas such as campgrounds, boat ramp, boat dock earthen fishing piers and a shelter house.
